WHAT IS BABBLETYPE?
Program Name: Babbletype
Creator: John Feldcamp
Babbletype is a work-at-home audio transcription website where freelancers can apply for a job as a transcriptionist.
Babbletype charges companies a fixed amount per word or per minute to translate in a different type of language.
It also allows companies and other firms to enable them to translate and transcribe so they can focus on different aspects of their business.
HOW BABBLETYPE REALLY WORKS?
Babbletype works with a lot of companies that need their audio files transcribed into written text. Generally, people report an excellent flow of assignments.
Like other transcription jobs, you need to have good typing speed and accuracy, and you need to be a native English speaker.
There are three jobs you can do for Babbletype,
- Transcription – Listening to recorded audio and type them out.
- Proofreading – Going over and correct the already transcribed audio.
- Translation – Translate the recorded audio into another language, that requires you to have a solid grasp of both your source and target languages.
Babbletype Requirements to Get Started
As I said earlier, you should be a native English speaker to become a transcriptionist if you want to apply.
To apply, you need to take a test to prove that you are up to the demands of the job you are seeking.
You’ll also need a computer, a high-quality headphone, a high-speed internet connection, and a quiet place to work free of distractions.
Babbletype has quite an extensive application process that doesn’t always go quickly.
Babbletype prides itself on providing good quality work to clients, so you will have to go through an evaluation test before you get hired.
The evaluation test takes three hours to finish, and after that, you have to wait for the result, so it is important to spend your time on the test when you take it, as it decides if you will be hired.
Let me remind you that you do won’t get any compensation from taking the test.
Babbletype is best suited for those people with flexible hours looking to work from home.
Also, when they give you an assignment, you have to finish it within 20 hours, so you have sufficient time to complete the tasks.
If you want to work with Babbletype, you must have strong language skills, hearing skills, and the ability to review the work and finding errors.
The work does not require training to compete, so once you pass the initial test, you are set to begin working right away.
How Much Does Babbletype Pay?
Babbletype will pay you per/audio minute, and as for the rate, it will depend on the skill required.
- Transcription – You’ll earn an average of 45 cents per audio minute.
- Proofreading (transcriptions) – You’ll earn 13 – 18 cents per audio minute transcribed.
- Translation – You’ll earn $1.30 to $1.60 per audio minute.
Speed and accuracy are important if you want to work as transcription, as you can see how much money you’ll earn will depend on per minute.
If you type fast, you will be paid well, and if not, you won’t get paid very well.
The pay that you do earn is deposited into your PayPal account weekly.
Here we are going to take a look at what other people say about Babbletype and what they have experienced when they work for them.
There are two review websites, and those are Glassdoor and Indeed, where people share what they have experienced when they work with Babbletype.
Now at Glassdoor, there are 55 reviews, and they gave 2.6 out of 5, and most of the reviews are negative because on how they treat them and the pay is low.
There are positive reviews as well, but not that much.
See the image below, and you can read more just go to Glassdoor.com.
Now with Indeed, there’s also a positive negative review about them, and the rate is almost the same with Glassdoor with 2.8 out of 5.
Some people say in Indeed is that Babbletype is a good place to work, and it is a good side job.
However, most of the negative review is the pay is low and that the company doesn’t care about them.
IS BABBLETYPE SCAM OR LEGIT?
Babbletype is not a scam as they offer you 3 jobs, such as Transcription, Proofreading, and Translation.
You can earn some money from this company, but the only downside is the pay is low as you can see that there are a lot of complaints about it.
Not just that, the other downside, according to other people, is that you might have to deal with sub-par customer support and put in a lot of hours for little pay.
Also, some of the audio is hard to hear, making it hard for you to translate, which will take more of your time.
The company offers little training when you are given a position.
It’s essential to recognize that there’s more value to working online than money, though.
If you are still interested, you can try it out since it is free and make sure that you pass their initial test.
- Weekly Salary
- Easy to Get Started
- You work on your own schedule.
- Low Pay
- Lots of negative reviews
- You are not in full control as an employee
- There’s a lot of reports that the customer support department is not very friendly.
- The platform is not very user-friendly.
- 24-hour deadline for all projects.
IS THERE SOMETHING BETTER?
Yes, there is.
We all know that transcriptions are a legit job, and there are a lot of them out there on the web.
If you know how to translate the audio file into word, then this job is for you.
However, the amount of pay for this job is very low, as you already see the negative review.
So you won’t earn that much on this job.
